Obituary of Alphonse J Angelino

Alphonse J. Angelino, 85, of Glenville, passed away at his home on December 19 with his loving family at his side. Born in Carlstadt, NJ, he was the son of the late Alphonse and Malida Angelino. Alphonse was united in marriage to Norma on February 19, 1955. Together they made Glenville their home for over 50 years. Al received a full N.R.O.T.C. scholarship to Columbia University, graduated with a BS in Mechanical Engineering, and was an associate member of the Society of Sigma Xi and the National Honorary Research Society. Al was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps in 1952. He proudly served as a Marine until 1954. He continued to serve with the United States Marine Corps Reserves as Captain until 1964. Al also received a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Union College and a Master’s in Business Administration from the State University of New York at Albany. Al was a manager for more than 33 years with General Electric (including KAPL & MAO).  In 1964, he was one of the few civilians who qualified as the Engineering Officer of the Watch who was responsible for directing the control of the nuclear reactor in Navy nuclear vessels. As a professional engineer he was a member of ASME, ANS and Elfun Society (G.E. Management). He retired from G.E. in 1988. As a retired G.E. engineer, Al taught math at Hudson Valley and Cobleskill Community Colleges. He was a communicant of the Church of the Immaculate Conception. He taught religious education, was a member of R.C.I.A Team and was a Core Committee leader in the RENEW 2000 program. He was a Eucharistic minister and sang with the church choir. For 20 years, Al was active in Residents Encounter Christ, a prison ministry, for the Albany Diocese, and also led a Bible study group at the Saratoga County Jail. Al was always generous in sharing his time, wisdom, experience and talents with everyone. He had a great love of his country, his church, and especially his family. His family was one of the most important things in his life. Al enjoyed being surrounded by his children and grandchildren at every opportunity and attended all of their life events. Al will be greatly missed by his family and the community. He was predeceased in death by his brother, Henry Angelino. He is survived by his wife Norma, his children; Thomas Angelino (Peggy) of Houston, TX, Stephen Angelino (Shirley) of N. Chesterfield, VA, Laura Pisarek (John) of Wilmington, NC and Marie Briscoe (Arnold) of Glenville; Eight grandchildren: Daniel Pisarek; Jessica, Kristina and Sarah Briscoe; David, Amy, Katelyn and Emily Angelino; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, December 23rd at 9:00 AM at The Church of the Immaculate Conception, 400 Saratoga Rd. with Rev. Jerry Gingras officiating and Rev. David Angelino, Al’s grandson, co-celebrating. Relatives and friends are cordially invited and may also call at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. Tuesday December 22nd from 4pm-7pm. Interment with military honors at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna. Contributions may be made to the Alplaus Volunteer Fire Department in the memory of Alphonse Angelino.
