Obituary of Ruth Hamlin MD

Ruth D. Hamlin, 91, of Glenville, died Sunday August 19, 2012 at the Baptist Health Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Scotia, NY. Ruth was born in Gabriels, NY, the daughter of the late Roy and Inez Layhee Dickinson. Ruth was a graduate of Nott Terrace High School and the secretarial program of the Mildred Elley School of Business. In 1945, Ruth married Leonard B. Hamlin. Ruth worked for ten years at G. E. in Schenectady and for thirty-two years in the Burnt Hills Ballston Lake School System, retiring in 1987. After retirement, Ruth was a volunteer at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd and at the Glenville Senior Center. Ruth was predeceased by her husband Leonard, her brother Fordyce Dickinson and her sister Elizabeth Dickinson. Survivors include her son Bruce Hamlin (Nell), her daughters: Linda VanSchaick (Paul) and Jackie Martini (John), as well as her grandchildren: Thomas VanSchaick (Anita), James VanSchaick, Amy Scrivener (Phil), Lisa Daviero (Kevin), John Martini Jr., Michael Martini (Stephanie), Megann Edwards (Geoff) and Alex Hamlin. Fifteen great grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews also survive. Ruth's family would like to thank the staff of N3 and S3 at the Baptist Health Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for the considerations extended to them and the exceptional care given to Ruth during her stay. Funeral services will be held Saturday August 25, 2012 at 10 am from the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 547 Saratoga Rd. Glenville, NY. Interment will take place at Memory's Garden, Watervliet Shaker Rd, Albany, NY. Relatives and friends are invited to call on the family at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd, East Glenville, NY on Friday August 24 from 5 to 7 pm. Memorial contributions in Ruth's name may be made to either the Baptist Health Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, 297 North Ballston Ave, Scotia, NY 12302 or Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 547 Saratoga Rd, Glenville, NY.
