Obituary of Deborah M. Poteran

Deborah M. Poteran, 64, passed away and into the arms of her savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, September 20, 2018, in the presence of her cherished family.  Born in Binghamton, NY on June 20, 1954, the daughter of Michael and Marie (Serino) Bakay, Debbie graduated from Chenango Valley H.S. in 1972 and from SUNY Geneseo College with her bachelor’s degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology.

Debbie married Michael J Poteran also of Endicott NY. They met at SUNY Geneseo and never left each other’s side. They were married for 42 years wonderful years and were blessed with a loving family.

Debbie is survived by her family including her loving husband, Michael, her son David and his family Shannan, Lea and Jack Poteran of Virginia Beach, VA,  her daughter’s family , Lisa and Matt Carpenter and their daughters Isabella and Olivia of Clifton Park, NY.  Debbie leaves behind her mother, Marie Bakay of Clifton Park, her siblings: Michael (Helen) Bakay, Gary (Mary) Bakay and Kara (Kevin) Eister as well as several nieces and nephews.

Debbie was committed to her family, friends and her faith. She loved spending time with those she loved. She was a wonderful artist and often shared how much she cared for others with homemade cards. She will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday (September 26^th) 10 AM in the chapel of Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. Glenville with Pastor Justin Yim, officiant.  Relatives and friends are cordially to attend and may call on the family Tuesday from 5PM to 8 PM at Glenville Funeral Home (online glenvillefuneralhome.com).

Interment will follow services on Wednesday at St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Glenville, NY.  In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to Samaritan’s Purse Donate Memorial Giving under Debbie Poteran.

A reception will follow at Ravenswood Restaurant following the committal service.
