Obituary of Joan M. Milavec

Joan Margaret Milavec, 87, of Glenville passed peacefully on September 29, 2018. Born in Minot, North Dakota to the late Carl and Margaret (Baucher) Carlson.

Joan grew up on her family’s farm and went to school in her home state. She went on to graduate from secretarial school in Bismark, North Dakota.

Joan married the love of her life, John Edward Milavec, on September 13, 1954. Together they moved from place to place including Schenectady, Rotterdam, Utica, Syracuse, Guilderland, Mamaroneck, and then finally settled down in Glenville.

She owned a payroll/accounting firm, MJM Business Associates, which she ran for many years. Her career was very important to her. Joan was a hardworking woman, as well as her husband, however, the most important thing in their lives was their family.

A devoted woman of faith, she was very involved with Immaculate Conception; she was on the welcoming and bereavement committee for many years. Joan was also a eucharistic minister with her husband.

Joan was predeceased by her husband, John, as well as her son, Michael James Milavec and brothers, Norel and Joe Carlson and sister Patricia Dostert.

Survivors include her children, Karla (Peter) Empie and David (Nicole) Milavec; grandchildren, Shaun Empie, Kimberly Empie, Jennifer Milavec, Matthew Milavec, Bryten Milavec, Dylan Milavec, Theresa (David) Lamitie, Christine Empie; great grandchild, Sergent Lamitie; Siblings Jim Carlson and Donna McMahon ; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Friday October 5, 2018 from 5pm – 7pm at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road. Glenville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9am on Saturday October 6, 2018 at the Church of the Immaculate Conception 400 Saratoga Road, Glenville. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Worcester, NY.
