Obituary of Elizabeth "Betty" A. Marotta

 

 
 

Scotia- Elizabeth Anne Marotta, “Betty Anne” (89), of Charles Street, passed away on Tuesday, October 16, following a brief illness.

Born August 8, 1929 in Utica, NY, she was the daughter of the late Gertrude and Thomas Bissett.  Betty worked in the General Electric Co., Tubes Division, was assistant credit manager of Bonds Store in Schenectady for a short time, worked as a secretary for the Air National Guard when it first started at the airport, and then went to work for her alma mater Scotia-Glenville Central Schools.  She was secretary to the High School Principal, Richard J. McGuire for 22 years.  Betty enjoyed bowling, golf, traveling, the Yankees, and most of all her family. 

Betty was a member and past president of the Scotia Women’s Dairy Bowling League.  She also served as the first president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the former Glenville Veterans of World War II.  Betty was president of the Mo-Ka-Je’-Wa International Association of the Turtles.  She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Scotia.  She and her husband spend winters in Lake Placid, Florida. 

Betty is survived by her husband Anthony of 68 years whom she married on September 17, 1950; a son, Anthony Jr. and his wife Carol of Saratoga Springs and their two children, Nicole Doyle (Chris) and Annalise (Partner Dave LaCroix), a daughter, Michele Packman and her husband William, of Ohio and their son William Jr. (Kristin) and two great-grandchildren Carter and Bennett Packman also of Ohio.  She leaves behind her sister-in-law Mary (Edward) Starsiak, a brother-in-law Louis Marotta (Patricia) of North Carolina, and several nieces and nephews.  She leaves many special friends including the “Charles Street Gang.” 

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, Scotia.  Burial will be at Most Holy Redeemer Mausoleum immediately following the service.  Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Glenville Funeral Home on Friday, October 19 from 6 PM to 8 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Elizabeth (Betty) Marotta’s name to the Juvenile Diabetes Association or Hospice of Schenectady County.  Online condolences may be made at www.glenvillefuneralhome.com.
