Marilyn Hansen

Obituary of Marilyn A. Hansen

Marilyn A. Hansen, 81, went home to be with Jesus on October 16, 2018 after being stricken while on a church retreat in the Poconos. She was born to Herbert and Sophia Flemming on January 19, 1937 in Buffalo, NY.  Marilyn received her bachelor’s degree in education from Buffalo State Teachers College in 1958 and began teaching in the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake School district.

Marilyn’s life was defined by her deep faith in Christ, always looking for ways to shine His light into the lives of others.  She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Schenectady, serving for many years as Sunday School Superintendent, Eucharistic minister, greeter, and scripture reader.  In her later years, she cherished the many outings with Zion’s Hardy Perennials. She taught elementary school at Schenectady Christian School for nearly two decades and was proud of her role in being among the first teachers there.  Marilyn was energized by connecting with others and loved being involved in bible studies, book groups, and her bridge club. Over the last few years she embraced life in her new senior community at Eastwyck Village.

She was predeceased by her husband Paul in 2012 and by her brother Herbert Flemming.  Left to cherish her memory and celebrate her homegoing are her two sons, Peter and his wife Tammi and their children, Rebecca, Abigail and Peter Hansen Jr. of West Sand Lake and David and his wife Diane of North Greenbush and their children, Colleen (Justin) Wise and Megan (Matthew) Ferguson.  Also surviving is her sister-in-law, Carol Walker of Queens, NY.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to call at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd., Glenville on Sunday, Oct. 21st, from 2PM to 5 PM. A celebration of life will be conducted on Monday, Oct. 22nd at 11AM at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 153 Nott Terrace, Schenectady, NY 12308, with a reception to follow.  Interment will be at Ridge Lawn Cemetery in Buffalo under the direction of Glenville Funeral Home.
