Obituary of Jay Gordon Clute

Jay Gordon Clute, 95, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2018.  He was the loving husband of 69 years to the late Olive (Uttberg) Clute.

Jay was born in Amsterdam NY to Vernon and Mildred (Van Eps) Clute on January 16, 1923 and grew up on the Van Eps Farm in Hoffmans, NY,  being the last of many generations to have lived there.  At the age of 16 he graduated from Scotia High School (Class of 1939) and in 1950 graduated from R.P.I. with a BS in Mechanical  Engineering.  Jay served his country in the US Navy Amphibious Force aboard the flagship US Rocky Mount in the Pacific Theater during WWll.

Jay was employed at G.E. for over 36 years working as a Toolmaker, factory foreman and manufacturing engineer as well as the General Head of Test for the Guided Missile Department and Manager of Plant Compensation and Benefits.  He was a member of the Quarter Century Club and a longtime member of Eastern Parkway United Methodist Church.

Jay enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, creating gadgets and amusing others with his witty humor and unique ability to recall just about anything and everything with precise detail.  However, he will be most fondly remembered as a man with strong family values and integrity.  He was a loyal husband, dedicated father and true friend - always selfless and willing to reach out and help others.  He will certainly be missed by all whose lives he touched.

Jay is predeceased by his brother Lauren Clute.  Survivors include his four children, sons, Donald (Ellen) Clute of Glenville and Robert Clute of Columbia, MD; two daughters, Caroleen (Eric) Garis of Glenville and Marna (Frank) Painter of Columbia CT.  Nine cherished grandchildren, Heath Clute, Michael Clute, Brian Garis, Christina Ehrhard, Paul Painter, Kandra Vaught, Brandon Clute, Allison Clute  and Jay Clute as well as 11 great grandchildren and numerous beloved nieces and nephews also survive.
