Obituary of Lorraine H. Shiely
Lorraine H. Shiely, 88 (nee: Ordon), passed away December 15, 2018 at Ellis Hospital peacefully. Born in Schenectady on February 25, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Felix and Alice (Rutkowski) Ordon. A lifelong resident, Lorraine graduated from Mont Pleasant High School ('47)
employed at G.E. Business Office.
She married William “Bill” Shiely on October 13, 1956. Lorraine was an election inspector
later becoming a court clerk (town of Glenville). She was a Lifetime member of the Ladies of Rotterdam Elks 2157, GEAA and the Rotterdam and Scotia-Glenville Seniors and volunteered for the American Red Cross St Joseph's Parish events. She and Bill were ushers at Saratoga Performing Arts Center for several seasons. She belonged to St. Joseph’s Church in Scotia and a member of its' Rosary Society.
She had a love for animals of all kinds..feeding feathered friends in the backyard to the adopted dogs and cats. We share fond memories our camping trips in the Adirondacks especially Fish Creek Ponds Campground and Myrtle Beach SC.
Lorraine was outgoing, and always smiling.
Her home was always open and ready for company. She hosted several of her niece’s and nephew's bridal and baby showers.
Her loving husband Bill passed away on May 13, 2009. She was predeceased also by her infant son, David William Shiely 1960.
Survivors left to treasure her memory and carry on include her daughters Maureen Colose (late Dan) and Annie (Robert) Memoli; one grandson, David Memoli, all of Rotterdam; her sister, Phyllis (Gerald) Freeborne of Maine, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday, (December 18) from 5-8 PM at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. Glenville. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrated Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 9:30 AM in St. Joseph’s Church, 231 Second St. Scotia. Interment will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Brandywine Ave. Schenectady.
