Obituary of William Martin

William Martin, 77, of Ballston Spa, passed away on December 26, 2018 at Albany Medical Center, with his family at his side. Born on September 30, 1941 in Corbridge, U.K., he was the son of William and Daphne Johnson Martin. He was raised and educated in England, He received a diploma in Architecture from King’s College, Durham University in England. During his study he undertook Architectural Assignments in Athens, Greece and Toledo, Spain. Initially employed as a Designer/Draftsman in Sunderland, England. Mr. Martin emigrated to the U.S. in 1967. Bill later became a naturalized citizen of the U.S. Since ’67 he was a licensed architect practicing his profession in the Capital District. In 1983 he was appointed by the Board of Regents as Executive Secretary to the State Board for architecture and landscape architecture. He retired in 2004. Bill volunteered for AARP Legislative Patrol and was a volunteer for The Saratoga Performing Arts. Left to treasure his memory is his beloved wife, Gail Baccari Martin, whom he married in 1972. They raised their family in Niskayuna. After retiring, he and Gail moved to Ballston Spa. Bill loved spending time with his family. He and his wife traveled to Asia, Australia, Alaska, The Mediterranean and Europe.. They took several memorable cruises. Bill was an avid reader and knowledgeable on many topics. He was a fan of Jeopardy, enjoyed casino gaming and playing various crossword puzzles. Survived by his beloved wife Gail M. Martin; sons, Stephen (Michelle) and Bradley (Tyffani) Martin; his cherished grandchildren: Liam, Eisley and Daphne Martin; a sister, Joanne Kestas (late Philip) and sister-in-law Jo Ann Baccari. Bill also leaves behind his nieces and nephews, Michael Kestas, Yolanda Kestas, Lisa Durso and Sean Tanis.

Funeral services Wednesday, January 2nd at 11 AM, in the Glenville Funeral Home Chapel, 9 Glenridge Rd. Glenville. Relatives and friends may call prior to the Celebration of Life service from 9-11 AM. Entombment will follow at Most Holy Redeemer Mausoleum.
