My first memory of Aunt Phyllis was my mother, her sister Gail, telling me that I was named after her. That was special to me.
As she lived in New York, most of the memories revolve around her visits back to Michigan. On one visit she made for Mother’s Day, we were scheduled to meet at Grandma Trinidad’s (her mother’s) house. My birthday falls near Mother’s Day. Someone must have told her, because she gave me a birthday gift. The outfit she purchased ‘fit’ me and not just size. Amazingly, she had captured my style and color. It was the perfect gift.
My most recent, and perhaps indelible memory, is our time spent in the hospital room with Grandma Trinidad during her final moments. We visited and watched Winter Olympics as the time passed. Her training helped us realize when Grandma had taken that final breath. I think it was comforting for both of us to have someone with whom to share that time.
Although we cannot be there, our thoughts and prayers will be with you as you share time to remember Aunt Phyllis.
