Obituary of Alfred Lyon

Alfred "Al" Lyon, 83, was called home to our Lord on January 5, 2019 at Ellis Hospital with his loving family at his side.

 

Born on May 30, 1935 in Schenectady, he was a lifetime resident. the son of the late Alfred E. Lyon Sr. and Myrtle Williams Lyon.He was married on July 10, 1955 to his forever love, Joyce Marsh Lyon.  Together they shared a life full of happiness.  Al was employed for the town of Glenville for many years. First as a Policeman where he was respected by the community for his genuine interest in serving people, then as a member of the Highway Department until he retired. Al will be remembered for his outgoing, funny and sociable personality and as a passionate man with a strong bond with his wife and family.

 

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Joyce; their two wonderful children, Linda Carpenter (Douglas) and David Lyon (Judy); his brother, Richard Lyon (Sunny); six grandchildren: Crystal Bender (Richard), Charlie, Nicole, Darryl, Henry and Frank Lyon. Al leaves a legacy of 12 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Special thanks are given to Schenectady Hospice and the caring nurses and staff on C-Wing at Ellis Hospital.

 

Al always knew how to make people laugh, carrying a ray of sunshine wherever he went.

 

Funeral services to celebrate his life will be held Thursday (Jan. 10)  at 11 AM in the Glenville Funeral Home Chapel, 9 Glenridge Rd. (Town Center). Relatives and friends are also cordially invited for calling hours Wednesday from 6-8 PM.  He will be laid to rest in Park Cemetery, Scotia.  Online condolences may be sent to Glenvillefuneralhome.com.
