Obituary of Edward Batson

Edward J. Batson, 82, of Glenville, passed away suddenly at his home April 26, 2013.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Cecil and Edna Mahoney Batson. Edward was an only child and grew up in Rensselaer attending both C.B.A. and Siena College. He worked for General Airline in Rensselaer then served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, attaining the rank of Sergeant and earning three bronze service stars. He was married to the former Arlene V. Glowacki on June 30, 1962. The Batson family moved to Glenville in 1974. Edward worked as a purchasing agent for the Office of General Services in Albany for 39 years. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Glenville, an avid sport enthusiast, and "Best Grandpa" to his eight adoring grandchildren. Ed was able to witness the Red Sox's two World Championships and the glory decade of his New England Patriots! His passion was his family, especially grandchildren, as he cheered and witnessed nearly every sporting event with pride. Ed enjoyed the flat track season at Saratoga in August, NASCAR events and stock car races.

Survivors include his wife Arlene V. Batson, two sons, Kevin E. Batson (Sherri) and Edward K. Batson (Jill); his daughter, Colleen Batson-Siniapkin (John Siniapkin); grandchildren: Nicholas and Brooke Batson, Alyssa and Matthew Siniapkin, Tanner Lagace, Kaitlyn, Marcus and Lucas Batson.

Calling hours will be held Sunday April 28, 2 PM-4 PM, at Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. for relatives and friends to pay their respects. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday April 29 at 9 AM at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 400 Saratoga Rd. Glenville. Interment with military honors will follow at St. Anthony's Cemetery, Glenville.
