Obituary of Wayne P. Podbielski

Wayne P. Podbielski, 64, passed away suddenly on July 6, 2019 at his home. Born in Niskayuna, he was the son of the late Chester and Catherine Podbielski. Wayne was a 1973 graduate of Niskayuna High School. Following high school, he enlisted in the Air Force and served in the reserves until 2003. Wayne also went on to obtain an associate’s degree.

He worked at Ellis Hospital for 45 years retiring in 2015 as a materials manager. Wayne also worked and eventually owned his father’s flooring company Chet’s Flooring, until it closed in 2016. For the last 10 years, Wayne flipped homes with his son Rob with ERP Properties in both New York and North Carolina. He married his wife Christine in 1990.

Wayne was an avid outdoors man, he enjoyed skiing, hiking, and going to the ocean especially at their summer home at Holden Beach in North Carolina. He was also a fan of stock car racing, often attending races at Fonda Speedway and Albany-Saratoga Speedway. Wayne was a football fan for any team Peyton Manning played for. Above all Wayne loved his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors in addition to his wife Christine Podbielski, include his son Robert (Denise) Podbielski, stepdaughter Jennifer (Patrick) Silva, Grandchildren Elizabeth and Evan Podbielski, Emily, Aiden, and Molly Silva. His brother Gary (Jeanette) Podbielski, sisters Janet Bedian and Nancy Plunkett, his feline companion Velcro along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday July 11, 2019 from 6-8pm at the Glenville Funeral Home 9 Glenridge Road Glenville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday July 12,2019 at 9am at the Church of the Immaculate Conception 400 Saratoga Road Glenville. Interment will follow at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
