It has been a little more than three years since Father Tom passed away in such a tragic accident. He was a beloved priest who served a very large role in bringing the Roman Catholic Charismatic Renewal to the Albany Diocese, serving for many years as the Liaison between the Renewal and the Bishop. He was non-authoritarian and Spirit-filled in his role leading and later assisting the Renewal where he fostered an atmosphere of loving communication within the Renewal and between the Renewal and the Diocese. Like some of the Apostles, he was a fisherman by trade who later became a fisher of men. God Bless Father Tom.

Fr. Connery,
You are the martyr for all of us that suffered through the Halloween Storm of 2019...NO ONE ELSE was hurt or died except you, Jesus chose you and you died for us selflessly offering yourself on the way to serving Mass, at this point long into your retirement years after decades as our Priest, thank you, we love you and will remember you on this Date Oct. 31!

Father Connery will be greatly missed. Our family has so many fond memories of him~ from when he first came to our church, St. Mary’s- my parents we’re both students in school there- they graduated in 1963 & 1965. He married them in April of 1966, and proceeded to baptize me in February of 1967, my sister in 1969, and my other in 1976. Father Connery was very good friends with my Grandmother and Grandfather Long, who were very active in the church and part of the “Kitchen Crew”- they cooked church meals for different events- Yearly, my grandparents would hold a get together at their camp for the “Kitchen Crew”, which Father always attended! In 1989, the first sad event happened, and that was the funeral of my Grandpa Long~ the comfort from Father was tremendous. In 1990, was the year he married me! It was shortly after this that Father left St. Mary’s. But, he returned- He returned in August of 2000 when we contacted him that my dad passed away at 54 years old of colon cancer- We couldn’t imagine anyone but him doing his funeral. He came immediately! Then he was there for us again- when my sister married her best friend in October 2001~ Who else could marry one of us? Only Fr. Connery- If Dad couldn’t be there, Father C would be! And if anyone ever needed a sign.... during his homily- Father was giving examples: “P” for........ I don’t remember all the details- what we DO remember- We looked at each other stunned, our mouths saying OMG! He just spelled the word P-E-P-S-I! For those that don’t know- it was my dad’s go to drink! Father didn’t do this on purpose- we told him after! He was shocked! I cried when my mom called and told me about Father Connery. He meant so much to us, as he did to many- but he had so many personal moments in our lives. Thinking of you all. RIP Father Tom and God Bless!

I knew Father Connery well through his many years at Church of Immaculate Conception. He was always a joy to talk to and go to confession to. He helped me many times as a spiritual councilor and truly lived his faith. He was a very respected and loved man in the community and his passing was sorrowful. I know the gates of heaven swung wide to receive him and he rest in peace with the Lord he so loved.

Sending prayers to Fr. Connery’s family and friends on this day of his burial mass. Fr. Connery married us in Kodiak, Alaska almost 50 years ago, on December 20, 1969! He was very well loved by the people of Kodiak, as he became immersed in the lives of the people in this Kodiak island fishing community (from 1967-1970). He was a great priest for us in Alaska, too, and not just New York.

On behalf of the Charismatic Renewal of the Albany Diocese, we are forever grateful to Fr. Tom, you were instrumental in establishing the Diocesean Service Committee for our diocese. This initial courage and belief was the foundation of who we are today. Fr. Tom was beside us leading the way in uncharted waters, with the aid of the Holy Spirit. In recent times he has served the Charismatic Renewal community with providing his blessed gifts as he was our presider and homilist at many of out monthly liturgies. Father Tom an Irish blessing to you; "May the road rise to meet you, May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, the rains fall soft upon your fields and, until we meet again may God hold you in the palm of his hand", Jack Ellsbury and Diane Seaver, Co-liaisons.

I had only known Father Connery a few short weeks since he had been providing the Sacraments at our church in Newport, but in those short weeks we came to know a man of supreme KINDNESS. I suspect that he LIVED OUT the philosophy that you catch more flies with sugar than you do salt as every word he spoke to us there was one of gracious encouragement delivered in utter sincerity. I am absolutely heart-broken at his loss and send our sincere condolences to his family. Liz Fusco

Father Tom Connery was plenitudo gratiae -- a person of grace, a priest of presence. He welcomed me to my
first pastorate in a dying venue and encouraged me in my pastoral infancy with visits, dinners at the Mohawk\
Club and remembering.... remembering. He gave me the cuff links of the late Archbishop Joseph Ryan,
Alaska bishop and priest of Albany. He gave me the cuff links because Archbishop Joseph Ryan and I
had the same initials. He said when you wear them say a prayer for the Archbishop. I do and now will
include TC--------

God danced the day you were born. I am deeply saddened by not having you here on earth. There is not one doubt in my mind that you walked into the gates of heaven and were welcomed by so many people that also loved you. May you Rest In Peace and your family know how many’s lives you have touched , how much you are respected, and how much you are loved.
