Obituary of Charles Henry

Charles Arthur Henry SchenectadyCharles A. Henry, 87, former resident of Waterford and Clifton Park, passed away peacefully June 3, 2013 at Kingsway Arms Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He had resided formerly at Alterra Wynwood. Born on August 16, 1925, he was the son of the late John and Louise (Duffin) Henry. Charles was born in Cohoes, raised a short time in Mechanicville before moving to Harvey Station, New Brunswick, CN. He entered the U.S. Navy from Portland, ME where he served aboard the Destroyer USS Roache during WWII. Charlie graduated from the State University of New York at Oswego, also attending New York University in NYC, Albany State University and Russell Sage College, earning his master's in education. Mr. Henry was a teacher and administrator for Mont Pleasant High School. He later was principal for the Albany/Schenectady/Schoharie Board of Education at the Occupational Center at Mont Pleasant. Mr. Henry worked at the General Electric Training Center on Balltown Rd. as a Lead Training Specialist and was program consultant for over 10 years. Following retirement he served as a consultant for an additional four years. Mr. Henry was elected to the Board of Education in the BH-BL Central School District, serving two full terms. He was elected president of the Greater Capital District School Board Association, and was a member of the Neighborhood Youth Corps Advisory Board, serving 11 years in the city of Schenectady. Since 1974 Charles was affiliated with the Edison Country Club of Rexford. Following retirement he golfed daily and became an avid golfer with a five handicap. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce. He was of the Lutheran Faith. His wife, the former Alberta Kraus Henry, passed away February 19 of this year. Survivors include four sons, Robert T. Henry (Stephanie) of Las Vegas, John W. Jack Henry of Charlton, Jeffrey R. Henry and David C. Henry (Jodie) of Ballston Lake; and a brother, John Henry of St. Stephens, New Brunswick, Canada. He is survived also by seven grandchildren, five greatgrandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. There will be no formal calling hours. Interment will follow Navy honors at the Gerald B.H. Solomon National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
