Obituary of Ethyle J. Thiel

Dateline: Glenville Ethyle J. Thiel, 95, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2020 in Galway at the home of her daughter, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Niskayuna, New York on March 17, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Anna (Hyson) Jones. Ethyle was a graduate of Scotia Glenville High School. She married her beloved late husband Eric A. Thiel on December 19, 1943. Together they shared nearly 75 years. Ethyle worked at Union College in Schenectady for 18 years, retiring in 1983. Ethyle and Eric enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the country and wintering in Florida, where they made many friends. She spent her time keeping busy doing gardening, crocheting, crewel work knitting and hooking rugs. Above all she cherished the time she spent with her family especially her grandchildren. Ethyle was predeceased by her husband Eric A. Thiel, her sister Muriel DeSorbo and sister in law Elizabeth Thuener. Survivors include her daughters Kristen Brooks, Lindsay (Robert) Stockwell, Marsha (Clark) Briggs and Karen (Albert) Luther. Ethyle is also survived by her grandchildren Jennifer (Victor) Laux, Robert (Ashley) Stockwell, Katherine (Richard) Keller, Jessica Brooks, Peej (Mike) Rice, Heather Brooks, Jeremy (Heather) Brooks, Amanda (Phillip Dennis Jr.) Luther and Megan Luther, 15 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchild, her sister in law Ruth Graham and several nieces and nephews also survive. In keeping with Ethyle’s wishes funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in her name may be made to The Community Hospice Foundation 310 S. Manning Blvd. Albany, NY 12208 for the wonderful care Ethyle received.
