Edward Snyder

Obituary of Edward W. Snyder

Edward Wilson Snyder, 78, of Charlton passed peacefully on April 7, 2020 with the love of his family and Jesus around him. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late Oliver W. and Agnus (Merkle) Snyder. Ed attended Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and earned his bachelor’s degree in Engineering at Duke University.

During his master’s degree at Cornell University he met the love of his life, the former Nancy Hequembourg. The couple were active members of Phi Beta Kappa. After graduation, they planted their roots in Charlton, NY where they began their family.

For over 40 years, Ed worked at nearby Knolls Atomic Power Lab. As an active member of his church, East Glenville Community Church, he served as both a deacon and elder. In 1980, he was a team member on the Schenectady Curling Club when they won the Bronze Medal at the United States Championship in Bemidji, Minnesota.

Throughout his life, Ed loved getting to the ocean. Primarily this meant Ocean City, Maryland where he loved to fish, crab, and enjoy the beach. Ed also was fond of Torrey Pines and the Outer Banks. Ed’s favorite memories consisted of anytime, anywhere as long as it was with his family; whether that memory was holiday gatherings, climbing mountains in the Adirondacks, or relaxing together as the sun set over the ocean.

His family and friends will always remember his warm, easygoing personality and favorite lines such as "How goes the war," "Fat city," and "Life is simple."

Predeceased by his brother, Alan Snyder.
