April Allen

Obituary of April E. Allen

April E. Allen, 71, of Scotia passed peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on May 14, 2020. Born in Middletown, CT, she was the daughter of the late Robert Harrison and Nonie (Ames) Allen. During World War II, her father served in the United States Navy and her mother worked as a Medic in the Army. Being raised in a military family, they lived in different places around the country. She attended school in St. Louis, Missouri and in Hawaii; she often shared stories of her beautiful experiences growing up in Hawaii. After high school, she entered the United States Air Force and served her country as a Medic. From 1968 to 1970, she was stationed at Lackland AFB, San Antonio, TX and worked at Wilford Hall Medical Center. She provided medical care for soldiers returning from Vietnam. It was a rewarding experience to be there for her fellow patriots, and being young herself it was an emotional experience to tend to so many young men. April was proud to have served her country and provide medical care for our American heroes. For many years she worked at Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital in Medical Records. Before anything else, the light of her life was her son, Adam Krone. She was a devoted mother and grandmother to her 2 grandchildren. April and her loving companion, George Paupst, shared the last ten years of their lives together, they went on many vacations to beach destinations. If April wasn’t with family or friends, she would be found at the Animal Protective Foundation in Glenville. Her caring heart and love for cats made her a devoted volunteer for many years. Memorial contributions in April's name may be made to the APF, 53 Maple Ave, Schenectady, NY 12302. In addition to her loving son, Adam Krone; April is survived by her two cherished grandchildren, long-time partner, George; as well as her brothers, Don and Doug Allen. A Military Service and Burial at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National will be scheduled at a later date. Online condolences at glenvillefuneralhome.com
