My family was very close to the Slivas as I was growing up. I was introduced to the world of chemistry through Dan. Chemistry became my passion as a result. I have to thank Dan among those who influenced me in many ways. He was bright, a gentleman and a great role model for many. My sincere condolences to Dan's family and friends. I know that his passing will leave a void for many. Chet

Dear Ann,
I am very sorry to hear about Dan's passing. I wasn't aware he was ill. In the short few years I knew him, I truly enjoyed his company. He was very smart with a great sense of humor and someone with whom you could carry on an interesting conversation. He knew a great deal about many things. He will be missed!. I hope you can find happiness during this sad time in the great life you shared with Dan and loving family you created.

My sincere condolences go out to Ann Sliva and all members of the family. I was privileged to get to know Dr. Dan through my work with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and Dan and I met several times for tea to talk about his activities, professional career, and his regard for RPI. He told me of his illness in April and I phoned several times to see how he was doing. He was a smart, funny, warm-hearted man who will be missed. I regret that COVID-19 makes it impossible to say farewell in a way we might prefer, but I know he was a man of faith who is now in one of many mansions that the Lord has prepared. I will remember Dr. Dan every time I look at the stars.

To all of Dan's family and to the Church of the Immaculate Conception,

Memories of the early seventies shared with Dan as my manager and mentor at the GE CR&D are treasures. Our Carbon Fiber Team nicknamed him “Big Guy”. He led the team in the process that transformed the ‘poly puff’ filaments into graphite fibers. You could always talk to Dan and his mentoring my career at GE is priceless. My husband, Ken, knew him at GE CR&D as well and we remember Dan and Ann at our wedding 48 years ago. Our deepest sympathy to Ann, their children and grandchildren for their loss.

My sincerest sympathies go to Ann,Julie, Tom, Marie and all the family for the loss of Dan. Dan was a good friend and fellow manager of my husband Charlie. They worked closely for many years and Dan and Ann lived down the street on Pinewood Dr., where we both raised our families. He was a gentle giant with a big heart and devoted husband and father and friend. I always remember theirs being one of the prettiest yards on the street, Dan was always trimming and planting and mowing...taking good care as he did with everything and everyone. He will be sorely missed by all of us. Rest In Peace dear friend in the arms of our loving Father.

Fellow Church of the Immaculate Conception Parishioners Ann and Marie:
So very sorry for your loss and hope happy memories of Dan the husband and father will comfort you one day at a time. At the 8 am Liturgy, you 3 were on the usually on the right hand side pews-by the stained glass windows-as we were a few pews behind. We all extended to each other the Sign of Peace:)
Dan had a quick smile which went all the way to his beautiful blue eyes too. We reintroduced ourselves to each other after mass a few years ago when we realized we recognized each other. It was because Dan and I (Liz) both worked at GE GRC. His academic and career achievements were surely admired by many who worked with him.
Take especially good care.

It is so hard to believe that Dan has gone home to God... We spent many, many hours discussing many, many things at my desk in the rectory. He did so much for the church and for so many around him. He was greatly loved and will be missed by many. May Ann and the family feel the loving prayers of many and know the consolation that comes from faith, family, memories, and love.

Karyl and i wish to extend our condolences to Ann and the family. We will miss Dan as President of The Silicone Retirees where he brought many speakers to our luncheons and moderated the proceedings with enthusiasm and skill. I am sure many other former GE Silicone personnel will miss him as a friend and coworker. May he rest in Peace.
