Obituary of George Babcock

George Roma Babcock, 90, formerly of Lincoln Drive, residing the past four years at Baptist Health and Rehabilitation Center, passed away peacefully October 4, 2012 at Ellis Medicine. Born in Wells, NY, he was the son of the late George and Maude Craig Babcock. Following high school he enlisted with the Navy and was placed into active service in 1941. George served as Aviation Chief Machinist Mate aboard vessels in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre of Operations during WWII. He was the recipient of several medals for combat and honorably discharged from the USN Air Station (1946) in Pensacola, FL. George was married to the former Marion "Priscilla" Barton on April 25, 1945. He was employed by King Cadillac-Olds in Schenectady as Parts Manager for many years. He was of the Catholic Faith. Priscilla passed away in April of this year. The Family wishes to thank the entire H-2 staff at Baptist Health for their compassion and the excellent care George received. Survivors include two sons, Dr. Robert B. Babcock (Laurie) of Pittsford, NY, Douglas M. Babcock (Suzanne "Lisa") of Latham; three daughters, Kathryn B. Kopmeyer (David) of Yuma, AZ, Carol B. Lemanski (William) of Ballston Lake and Janet B. Hoffay (Robert) of West Sand Lake, NY. He leaves behind a sister, Ruth Mary Beaudin (Edgar) of Wells, NY. George is survived also by 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A private family service will be conducted at the convenience of the family at the National Veteran Cemetery (Gerald Solomon) with military honors bestowed. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association Inc.
