Obituary of Frederick Blase

Frederick M. 'Fred' Blase GlenvilleFrederick M. Blase, 84, of Glenville, died peacefully July 2, 2013 at Ellis Hospital with his family at his side. Born in Amsterdam, NY on August 31, 1928, he was the son of the late Frederick H. and Maude Maxson Blase. Fred graduated Wilbur H. Lynch High School in 1946 and was a sergeant in the U.S.A.F. from 1947-50. He married his high school sweetheart, the former Janice Kluska on July 28, 1951. The couple moved to Glenville in 1952. Fred was owner/operator of Four Season's Sporting Goods Store in Mayfair for 10 years. He then was employed by the Scotia-Glenville Central School District as head custodian for the junior high school from 197296. Fred was chief for several terms for the Thomas Corners Fire Department and served on the board of commissioners up until the time of his death. He was former president and current secretary/treasurer for the Association of Fire Districts of the Capital Area. He enjoyed spending time at his camp at the Great Sacandaga Lake which his family owned since 1937. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Fred was predeceased also by two granddaughters, Elizabeth Talbot (Scott Smulsky) and Samantha Jean Van Buren. Survivors include his beloved wife, Janice Blase; daughters, Karen Talbot (Walter) of Troy, Cynthia Van Buren (Martin) of Glenville, and Caroline Blase (Lisa Joyce) of Glendale, CA; his grandchildren, Susan Martuscello (Christopher), Catherine Belanger (Dave), Mary Talbot, Blase Van Buren (Jackie); great-grandchildren, Christopher and Elizabeth Martuscello, Andrew Bellanger and Hailey Van Buren. He is survived also by several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 5, 2013 at 10 a.m. from the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd., East Glenville. Calling hours will be Thursday (July 4) from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. Interment will be on Friday at the Gerald B.H.
