I was fortunate to work with Jim in the BHBL district. He was a Language Arts expert and I was a 2nd grade teacher at Charlton Heights Elementary. When he asked us to explore a new topic, he worked right along with us. He will be remembered fondly in the Retired Teachers Association. We were blessed to have him in our district!!!

I am so sorry for your loss. Many years ago when my own children were young and some were at Pashley School, I became a reading tutor. I knew nothing how this was accomplished but Mr.Denney took the time to teach me and even had me go to a reading seminar for more help. I loved doing this! A memory I still treasure is of a Mom who took the time to find out exactly who I was and was waiting for me one day at the school. Her son was 2 grades behind in reading and was a big boy so both of them were very sad as he was bullied for being put in the "baby" reading group of his class. He was in 3rd grade at the time. He did very well and became so proficient he advanced another grade in reading and the following year he was doing extremely well in all subjects because he could now read. He often stopped to say hi and chat for a few minutes even when he was no longer at Pashley. Long story yes, but this would not have been accomplished if not for Mr.Denney's intuitiveness. Thanks Mr. Denney.

What a wonderful gentleman gone too soon. I will always refer to Mr. Denney as someone who believed in me and gave me my start. I owe the beginning of my teaching career at Pashley directly to him. After several months of substitute teaching and feeling ready to give up, Mr. Denney encouraged me to stay the course. He assured me something will come up, that would be just right for me. Twenty + years later I am still at Pashley. Mr. Denney was such a kind, compassionate principal who cared so much about the students, staff and parents and the feeling was mutual! The community just loved him. His sense of humor, ability to genuinely listen, thoughtfully reflect and then give helpful, supportive advice was much appreciated over the years. My sympathy to all on the loss of a great man. Thank you Mr. Denney for giving me a chance. Rest in peace.

Mr Denney, as I knew him, was my tutor when I was out of school during the 6th grade from September until January. 1972, after being hit by a car the previous July. Many miracles happened, and I think one of those was Mr Denney being sent to me. Thankyou, Mr Denney, for making my home tutor time a joy! With love, Sue ( Kausch) Richter, MD

This breaks my heart! I never met a better person. He was the best of the best! Always happy, and always smiling. He loved telling jokes. One I remember best, he always said "how do you tune a fish, then he would say, by his scales", I worked as a Custodial Cleaner in Pashley school with him. I would meet him first thing in the morning while cleaning his office. He always made my day. A good man has gone to teach again, with the Angels. Sorry for the families loss. Be free Jim....

Sandy and kids, we were so sorry to just have heard of Jim’s passing. He was a wonderful educator in all of the positions that he held! But, some of our fondest memories were of Jim and Johnny shooting pool at our home and, also, of Jim and my hubby whitewater rafting! Johnny and I just watched from the shore! Jim was a gem of a person, one whom we will always remember fondly. You all have our sincere condolences. Barbara and John Plantz
