Rickey Walker

Obituary of Rickey H. Walker

Rickey H. Walker, 65, passed unexpectedly at his beloved home on August 31, 2020. Born in Plattsburgh, NY to the late Howard Walker and Marion (DeCarlo) Carron. He graduated from Plattsburgh High School in 1973 and continued his education at SUNY Plattsburgh.  Throughout his life, Rickey was a hard worker; he gave it his all in everything he did! Rickey never stopped learning or growing in work, life or his passion projects.

He met his best friend and love of his life in Plattsburgh, NY the former Maria DaLessio. They were married at St. Mary’s Church in Troy, NY  together they shared 42 years filled with endless memories, laughter, and love.

They began their family in Plattsburgh, NY and then moved to Massena, NY. For many years, they enjoyed boating on the St. Lawrence River and camping. Rickey’s career in Finance and Insurance expanded as he excelled in continuing education licensing, he earned the titles: CLU, ChFC, LUTCF, and was a Certified Financial Planner. His career moved his family to Middletown, Delaware in 1999. He was a dedicated Managing Director for MetLife, where he retired in 2009.

In 2015, Rickey and Maria moved back to the Adirondacks to West Charlton, NY into their Colonial dream home. As an active individual, who quite frankly couldn’t sit still, Rickey re-entered the workforce as a Partner at Evolution Financial Group in Clifton Park, NY. His work ethic and drive was admired by all who knew him. After a full day of work, Rickey would come home happily to maintain his large property, gardens and even save time for one of his many hobbies.

Rickey was a classic car enthusiast and would fix up the cars with his self-taught mechanical skills. He was passionate about model toy trains since receiving his first toy train as a Christmas present from his parents at age 8, a hobby which he continued to share with his children and granddaughter. Rickey and his wife curated antiques and Colonial era artwork. They spent weekends together taking day trips and finding special gems off the beaten path of their adventures. Rickey also found the time to be a talented wood worker, he crafted beautiful furniture pieces that will always be cherished by his family.

As a young boy, Rickey achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts, a tradition passed on from his step-father and one he passed on to his own son. Being outdoors brought him peace and comfort. He found happiness when working on his property, especially in his barn, relaxing on his boat fishing, or snow mobiling with his daughter in the winter. However, his most fond moments were created when he was surrounded by his family. Rickey instilled an overwhelming amount of love and generosity to his family, there was nothing more important than his family. His giant heart went further than just his kin, he passed kindness forward and donated to organizations which specifically helped children in need.

Rickey was a part of the West Charlton Fire Department as Fire Commissioner, National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, and his interests in history, specifically American Revolution and Civil War era history, led him to a membership in the Charlton Historical Society.

Predeceased by his parents.
