Obituary of Vito A. Spinelli

Vito A. Spinelli, 93, of Glenville, passed away peacefully on December 15th, at Glendale Home and Rehabilitation Center in Glenville NY following a brief illness. Born in the Bronx, NY, he was the loving son of the late Frank and Carmella (Savino) Spinelli.

 

Following high school, he entered the U.S. Army during WWII becoming a Pvt. First Class.

He was married on June 11, 1950 to the former Lucy Lombardi of Schenectady. The couple lived in the Bronx for several years before moving to Paramus, NJ in 1954. The Spinellis moved to Glenville in the late 1990's. 

 

A draftsman by trade, Vito worked for Byrne Associates (a project engineering co.) and also at Burns and Roe in the same capacity in New Jersey. He served as manager at these firms, supervising draftsman in various capacities relating to the building structures. His last position was in the pharmaceutical firm of Hoffman-LaRoche where he worked until the late 1990s. While at Roche, he made many trips to Puerto Rico, managing various projects. 

 

Vito was a collector of antique cars and owned well over 25.  He was co-founder of the "Restored Rusty Relics" car club in Paramus, NJ.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Frank and Lawrence Spinelli.  Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Lucy, his children: son, Leonard (Marilen) Spinelli of Hillsdale, NJ; daughters, Diana Taylor of Hawthorne, NJ and Victoria Spinelli of Midland Park, NJ.  He is survived by his cherished grandchildren: Dawn (William) Gill and Nicolo Spinelli as well as several nieces and nephews.  

 

There will be no services at this time.  A private burial will be held at a later date at Sts. Cyril-Methodius Cemetery in Rotterdam, NY under the direction of the Glenville Funeral Home of Scotia-Glenville, NY. Online: www.glenvillefuneralhome.com.
