Obituary of Dawne Rose Guidry

Dawne Rose Guidry, 78, of Scotia passed peacefully on December 28, 2020. She was born in Niskayuna, NY to her late parents, Edward and Ida (Siano) Nare. She attended Scotia-Glenville High School, where she was a Choralaire, and went on to receive her bachelor's degree from The College of Saint Rose.

After graduating Dawne briefly taught at South Colonie High School then went on to start her family.  She returned to work as a caseworker at Schenectady County Department of Social Services, then went on to spend the rest of her career training foster parents at the Center for the Development of Human Services; the curriculum she developed there is still being used today to help children in care.  During this journey she traveled New York, touched many lives, and even became a foster parent herself.  

Dawne raised her three children in the Village of Scotia where she grew up.  Living around the corner from her own parents, family was the most important thing to Dawne.  She always put others' needs before her own, and would do anything to help someone.  

Dawne loved spending time with her family and long drives.  She enjoyed keeping things simple, and was happiest sharing her pool with loved ones.

Dawne's Catholic faith meant a lot to her and led her to become a member of the Saint Vincent DePaul Society.  Throughout the years she continued to stay in contact with, and provide support to, some of the children and adults she met through the child welfare system.    

To continue Dawne’s memory are her loving children, Ed (Jeri) Guidry, Thom (Mary) Grogan, and Debbie (Robert) Miller; grandchildren, Cody Grogan, Claire, Lillian and Katherine Miller, Esme and Arlo Guidry; great-grandchild, Airianna Grogan; brother, Edward (Mary) Nare; as well as 3 nieces and 1 nephew.

Burial will follow at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Colonie, NY. A private visitation will precede funeral services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to a child welfare agency of your choice.
