Obituary of John L. Schultz

Dateline: Glenville

John L. Schultz, 83, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2021. He was born August 24th ,1937 in Albany to the late Louis and Margaret Schultz and lived his entire life in the Capital District. He was a loving husband to his late wife Ann E. Schultz.  His family had a farm in Colonie by the airport and in 1942 bought property on Wolf Road. There they established Schultz Garden Center. When his parents retired, he and his brother Roger ran this business for many years. He was the president of the New York State Nurseryman’s Association in the 1980s. His love for being outside and gardening was only natural for him. John and Ann opened a business growing and selling perennials after they sold Schultz’s. Over the years he had many hobbies such as golf, skiing, biking, boating and reading. In the later years he loved being in the backyard watching the birds at his feeders. But nothing gave him more happiness than his family. He loved spending time with his grandchildren going to their games and concerts or just spending time at home with them. John had a kind heart and an infectious laugh that will be missed by all.

Left to cherish his memory are his children Karen Schultz, Darlene Prince (Ken), Karyn Agneta (Paul), John Toftegaard (Nora) and Christine Henderson (Robert).  John is also survived by six grandchildren, two great grandsons, brothers William Schultz (Jeanette), Harold “Hal” Schultz and Roger Schultz (Barbara “Peachy”), sister Maureen Schultz along with several nieces and nephews.

Entombment will take place privately for the family at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in John’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association of Northeastern New York, 4 Pine West Plaza, Suite 405, Albany, NY 12205.
