Obituary of Sally A. Meraner

Mrs. Sally A. Meraner, long-time resident of Glenville NY, passed away peacefully on the 10^th day of January 2021 at the age of 92.

Sally was born to parents Norman and Marion (Christian) Tibbetts of Gloversville NY, the third of four daughters. The family moved to Schenectady, where Sally was graduated from Mont Pleasant High School and went on to work for the General Electric Company. It was there she met David Meraner, who would be her husband for 58 years, until his death. She was also employed by the Photo-Lab in Schenectady, the Bookmobile, and Glen Worden Elementary School, where she was fondly regarded as “SAM” the spirited lunchtime and recreation aide.

In 1950 Sally and David moved into the house built for them in Glenville that became their life-long home and the place they raised three children. For many years the extended family, including Sally’s grandchildren, shared their passion for swimming, fishing, barbecuing, and exploring at their summer cottages on the Great Sacandaga Lake in the Adirondack Mountains. Sally’s other loves included gardening, reading, drawing, painting, and crafting interesting and often amusing art pieces. She brought her special brand of creativity to everything she touched. “Super Sal” was a believer in social justice, a feminist, an independent self-aware woman with a penchant for “telling it like it is”, an honest woman, a font of wisdom, understanding, humor, resourcefulness, empathy, and in her own words, a “Jill of All Trades”.

Up until her last days, Sally spoke of her love for her deceased sisters, Jean Tibbetts, Norma Eoff (husband Beverly), and Nancy St. Lawrence (husband Marcel) with whom she was exceptionally close and with whom she hoped to reunite.

Sally will be dearly missed by her surviving children, Susan Corneau of Ballston Lake, Mark Meraner of Philadelphia, and Jason Meraner of Ballston Spa, her son-in-law Keith Corneau, her daughters-in-law Carol Meraner and Ann Marie Laurenzo, three nieces, a nephew, five cherished granddaughters, three great grandsons, and other adoring relations, including Gavin Whitt.

The family is especially grateful to Sally’s wonderful neighbors and dear friends for their many kindnesses, as well as the compassionate support of The Community Hospice, all of which helped Sally fulfill her wish to live out her remaining days in her own home.

Mrs. Meraner will be interred alongside her husband at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. A gathering to celebrate her life will be announced by the family at a later date.
