Obituary of Henry Dodge
Henry "Hank " Dodge 92, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2021 at the Stratton Veterans Medical Center, Albany. Born in Schenectady, Hank was the son of the late John and Edna (Lansing) Dodge. He was a lifelong Schenectady county resident. During his school years, a graduate of Scotia High School, he worked at Scotia Lanes as a pinsetter and later attended Union College. Henry served our country during WW II in Japan under General MacArthur's command. While in the military he was responsible for establishing the first bowling alleys in Japan. Following his return to the US, Henry married his beloved late wife Joan (Engel) Dodge of which they were married for 66 years. Henry worked for many years at H.S. Barney Company as treasurer and later the Carl Co. as credit manager. Hank was a member, past Vice President and Hickson Award winner of the Schenectady Kiwanis Club. He was a member of the Schenectady Bowling Associations Hall of Fame. His proudest achievement wasn't his three 300 hundred games, but the fact that he missed only 2 nights in 50 years of bowling. When he wasn't bowling, he would play a little golf. He has the distinction of being one of the areas only players to record a hole-in- one both as a right-handed and left-handed player. From the left he scored his ace on the 17th hole of Schenectady Muni and in 1970 he aced the 4th hole at the course that is now known as Brier Creek. Hank loved watching baseball. If it wasn't his beloved Yankees, you could find him and his wife at the baseball fields of Collins park in Scotia. Hank was a member of Bellevue Reformed Church Choir for many years before transferring to 1st Reformed of Scotia when he moved to Glenville. Above all, Henry enjoyed the time he was able to spend with his family and friends and will be deeply missed.
Hank is survived by his daughters Stefanie Lotey ( the late Michael) and Amy Swearingen (Tracy). Additionally, his grandchildren Christopher Lotey (Jennifer Parmon), Jill Scharling (Christopher), Tyler Swearingen and Jordan Swearingen, great-grandson Silas Scharling and several nieces and nephews survive.
In addition to his parents and beloved wife Joan E. Dodge, Hank was predeceased by his brother John L. Dodge (Anna) and sisters Ruth Barber (Al) and Electa Utermark (William).
A calling hour will be held on Thursday January 28, 2021 from 10-11 am at Glenville Funeral Home 9 Glenridge Road Glenville. Burial with Military honors will follow at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
