Obituary of Jeannette Gordon

Jeannette Gordon, 69, was welcomed into the arms of the Lord on January 21,2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Victoria, Texas she was the daughter of the late Joseph Cowan Gordon, Jr and the late Murray Joan Wallace Gordon.

Jeannette was raised in Hobbs, New Mexico and was an honors graduate of Hobbs High School. She went on to continue her education at VanderbiltUniversity’s School of Engineering in Nashville, TN - graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Engineering degree in 1973, and a minor in Nuclear Power.  To further her interest in nuclear power she then attended Georgia Tech – working on her master’s degree in Heat Transfer.

Jeannette then began her 46-year career at Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory (KAPL) in 1975, rising through several departments to the position of Senior Engineer.  She worked well beyond normal retirement age because she loved her work and her coworkers - and had just begun to plan a well-earned  retirement.

Her faith in God was the cornerstone of her everyday life and, as a longtime member of Faith Baptist Church in Rexford, she was involved with many church activities including the young adult programs and teaching adult bible studies. She served on the board of directors for Capital District Youth For Christ and Elim Park Home in Connecticut.  She did not stop her education after Georgia Tech - obtaining a master’s degree in Theological Studies from the Bethel Seminarywhile working at KAPL.

Through her involvement at Faith Baptist Church, she made many friends who formed her New York family. Jeannette was also an animal lover and joins her beloved dog “Tinker” in Heaven. One of her favorite pleasures was driving her red sports car through the Adirondacks.  Jeannette’s generous spirit will be fondly remembered by all that knew her.

In addition to her church family, she is survived by her younger brother Joseph Cowan Gordon, III (Shirley) along with several cousins.

Funeral services for Jeannette will be held privately in the spring with her pastor and friend Rev. Douglas Fombelle officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Faith Baptist Church, 11 GlenridgeRoad Rexford, NY 12148
