Obituary of Kendall Major

Kendall Irving Major Sr, 78, of Alplaus, died Thursday July 25, 2013 at Ellis Hospital. Kendall was born in Fort Edward, NY, the son of the late Richard Edwin Major and Ruth Elizabeth Cardinal Major. Kendall was a hard worker and a good provider. Myrtle Margaret McGrath, his wife of 60 years, he met at a block dance in Central Park, Schenectady, NY. He worked as a mason's helper at that time, and then went to work for the Mica Insulator, which changed hands when bought out by the 3M corporation. Kendall also worked for Joseph Bezio part time, learning the electrical trade. After he left Joseph, he worked with his father-in-law, Roy McGrath where he was taught more of the electrical trade. Roy introduced him to an electrical inspector who late told him of an opening in the IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) Local 724. Kendall took a test for his license and upon passing that he worked for several employers in Local 724, the last employer he stayed with was E.G. May, retiring in 1995. Kendall was President of a CB Radio club, served on the Board of directors of the Schenectady Yacht Club in Rexford, NY and Mohawk Maine, a part of the Yacht Club. Kendall was a handy man who rebuilt his home in Alplaus. He was also a good electrician, had several hobbies including woodworking and coin collecting Survivors include his wife Myrtle; his children: Lelani Lee, Tammy Marie, Marie Elaina Major and Kendall Irving Major Jr. Grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive. His brother Richard predeceased Kendall A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:00 am on Monday July 29, 2013 at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 400 Saratoga Rd. Glenville. Relatives and friends are invited to call on the family at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd, East Glenville from 4 to 6 pm on Sunday July 28, 2013. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions in Kendall's name are requested to be made to the American Cancer Society, 1 Penny Ln, Ste 1, Latham, NY 12110.
