Obituary of Michael A. Medick

Michael A. Medick, 65, passed away on February 1, 2021 surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Bethlehem, NY to his parents, Donald and Jean (Viglucci) Medick. A 1973 graduate of Christian Brothers Academy, he continued his studies at SUNY Adirondack.

Throughout his life, Mike worked as an X-Ray installer and repairman for many Capital Region hospitals. At Saratoga Hospital is where he met his beloved wife, the former, Marie E. Hagstrand.

Mike had the personality of a true showman.  He would act out his stories he was telling you in a theatrical way painting you a picture so you could experience it as if you had been there yourself.  He would start up conversations that would last for hours even if you were a complete stranger.  He had an uncanny way of engaging in conversation that was unapparelled. He was an extremely deep thinker and could make you question your own thoughts.  Mike was and always be the type of person who marched to the beat of his own drum, a true free spirit.

Mike enjoyed a myriad of activities. He was an expert gardener who grew his own vegetables and herbs and was a self-proclaimed horticulture specialist.  His favorite flower was a peony.  He enjoyed planting and caring for his garden year after year.  He would often share his harvest with family and friends. His favorite thing to do was his trips to Keene Valley.  Along with his lifelong friend Mike Monaco, they have primitive camped in Keene Valley three times a year since 1974. They would make camp along the Bouquet River and enjoy music, drinks and reminiscing.

Mike is and will always be a man’s man.  He loved the Yankees, talking politics, Marilyn Monroe, sitting around the fire enjoying a drink, smoking a cigar and listening to music.  He loved the Rolling Stones, The Beatles and The Who just to name a few bands.

Mikes ultimate badge was his title of Poppy.  He loved all of his grandchildren unconditionally.  He was and always will be the best grandfather.  He taught his grandkids life long skills such as the noogie, wet willie and the wedgie.

Predeceased by his brother, Paul Medick.

Mike is survived by his loving wife, Marie Medick, stepchildren, Erin (Bill) Kurz, Christopher (Christi) O’Brien, Shannon (Joseph Sharpe) O’Brien; grandchildren, Andrew, Jillian and Landon Kurz, Cade, Mackenzie and William O’Brien, Joe, Zack, Jordyn, Alexis and Ian Sharpe and great granddaughter Sunny ; sisters, Donna (Charles) Hood, Nancy (Mark) Armstrong, Mary Beth (Steven) Ribet; as well as several nieces, nephews and cherished friends.

At the convenience of the family, Mike will be privately honored and remembered in Keene Valley.
