Anthony Izzo

Obituary of Anthony J. Izzo

Anthony J. Izzo, 97, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2021 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Schenectady, NY to the late Angelo and Raphaella (DePasquale) Izzo. After graduating from Nott Terrace High School, he was drafted into the United States Army during World War II. Tony served his country while stationed in Newfoundland.

On a muggy July 13, 1947, Tony married the former Mary Mangino, his beloved wife of 74 years. Together, they created a strong foundation for their family. Tony was, first and foremost, a family man. He adored his grandchildren, and would address them as “my hero” and “my heroine.” He loved having family over every Sunday at 5pm for spaghetti, meatballs, and his own homemade sausage. He had a sharp wit, and notoriously will be remembered for his jokester humor.

A 1947 graduate of Union College, he was proud of his alma mater and would often attend sporting events and participate in many class reunions. For many years he worked as a Professional Engineer for ALCO and New York State. In 1985, he retired and was able to enjoy more of his hobbies, including golfing and bowling. Tony was also an avid gardener who had a green thumb for growing roses, which he would cut for his sweetheart, Mary. His interest in mushroom foraging earned him the nickname “Funge” from his co-workers.

Tony was predeceased by his loving son Robert J. Izzo; son-in-law Martin Brym; and siblings Quentin Izzo, Mary (Melvin) Hayner, Angelina (Toby) Harris, and Frank Izzo.

To continue his memory is his beloved wife Mary Izzo; children Anthony A. (David) Izzo, Mary Brym and Teresa (Alex) Fabozzi; grandchildren Michael (Cara) Izzo, Nicole (Brandon Iler) Izzo, Martina Brym, Alex (Lindsey) Fabozzi, Andrea (Ryan Pratt) Fabozzi.
