Obituary of Stanley R. Smith

Stanley R. Smith (Uncle Stan), 88 passed away peacefully on May 12, 2021 at the side of his loving niece, Dr. Antoinette M. DiMascio who was like a daughter to him. Stanley was a life long resident of the Schenectady area. He was the son of the Late Louis Smith and Mary Smith ( La Fleur). He was a graduate of Scotia Glenville High School (1950). Stan worked at General Electric Co, as  Crane Operator for 31 years, retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Local 31 and G.E. Quarter- Century Club, as well as a member of the Guilderland Elks.  He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and stepping in like a Father to help raise his Niece Antoinette, going on adventures with his Wife, Natalie, and riding his Harley.  He loved to read about history and was a life long learner of politics and culture. His love of the U.S.A and devoted patriotism to our Great Nation was apparent in his everyday life. His Great Nephews were the joy of his life, and  he loved  spending time with each of them. Stanley was predeceased by his parents, Lois and Mary Hand and 3 sisters, Gloria Latting of Schenectady, Mary Hand of Pennsylvania, and Charlotte Behrmann of Schenectady and his little Great Niece Esme DiMascio (Antoinette and Patrick, parents) of Malta, NY. He is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 49 years Natalie L. Smith (DeMatteo), Brother- in- law Ronald E. DeMatteo (MaryAnn, deceased), of Fairfax Virginia, 5 Nephews, Mark E. DeMatteo of Fairfax Virginia, Tom ,Robert and Bob Hand of Pennsylvania and Glenn Behrmann of Switzerland,  3 Nieces, Karen and Lisa DeMatteo of Virginia,  Dr. Antoinette M. DiMascio (Patrick), of Malta, NY, 3 Great Nephews, Michael, Joseph and Edward DiMascio of Malta NY. 

A celebration of memories will be held from 4-7 pm Sunday June 13, 2021 at Glenville Funeral Home, Glenridge Rd, Glenville NY, and a Mass on Monday June 14, 2021 at 11 am at St. Anthony’s Church, 331 Seward Place, Schenectady NY. All are invited and welcomed to both celebrations.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Stanley’s name may be made to St. Anthony’s Church Restoration Fund, 331 Seward Place Schenectady, NY 12305 or to the VFW Post 4660, 7 Fredericks Road Glenville, NY 12302.
