Obituary of Ann Ahern Meade

Glenville – Ann Ahern Meade, 88, of Glenville passed away June 11, 2021, at home surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Ilion, NY, on April 2, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Lucie (Carney) Ahern. Ann grew up in Ilion and graduated from Ilion High School in June 1952. From there she studied for two years at Potsdam State Teachers College before transferring to Saint Rose in Albany, NY, where she received her BS degree in elementary education May 1956.

Ann married the love of her life from Ilion, the late Robert J. ‘Bob’ Meade on June 30, 1956. Together they raised their beautiful family of four children and enjoyed their many camping trips together especially to Cape Cod. In retirement they were able to visit every state in the country in their many R.V.’s. Later in life they split their time between New York and Arizona.  Golf was a favorite passion.

Ann taught at Arongen elementary school in the Shenendehowa School District and loved being a teacher. Many of her past students remember her fondly. She was also known to have participated in the Freihofer’s Run for Women for many years.

Ann was predeceased by her husband Bob in 2003, and her companion John Yarnell in 2020. She was also predeceased by her brothers Don and Peter Ahern. Survivors include Kevin (Mary Ann) Meade of Glenville, Rob Meade of Scotia, Kathleen (Tom) Bradley of Ballston Lake and Tom (Michelle) Meade of Arkansas; cherished grandchildren Bryan (Renée) Meade, Christopher (Bree Purtell) Meade, Shaun Bradley, Jesse (Kevin) Herderich, Travis (Brittney Neal) Meade, Sierra and Bradley Meade, and Michael, Kelly and Laura Meade; as well as great-grandchildren Burke and Grady Herderich.

A Mass of Christian Burial at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 400 Saratoga Rd., Glenville with the Rev. Jerry Gingras officiating will be held Tuesday June 15, 2021, 11 a.m. Interment at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Glenville will follow.
