Obituary of Arlene Merrick

Arlene Merrick, of Scotia, NY passed away on June 6, 2021. She was born in Jersey City, NJ, the daughter of the late Frederick and Bertha Stortecky. Mrs. Merrick was the widow of Joseph Merrick, who passed away 12-10-2000. Joseph was her best friend in life and the person that always gave her strength and courage.

Mrs. Merrick taught on the high school and college level and spent many years in Social Services and Healthcare Administration.  She won numerous awards for her services to the elderly population of Schenectady County.

She was Schenectady County Volunteer of the Year in addition to being a counselor for Catholic Charities.  Arlene was also an Ombudsman for the NYS Office of the Aging.

She was on the board of the Scotia Glenville Senior Center and participated on many committees. She also enjoyed the Red Hats.

Per her request there will be no funeral services and interment will take place at the Stortecky family plot at Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown, NY.
