Obituary of Lena Rotonde

Peaceably in her sleep, Lena Rotonde, beloved daughter, sister, sister-in-law, Godmother, and Aunt, passed away on June 12, 2021.

Lena was born on March 25, 1927, to Mary A. (Calvano) Rotonde and Joseph Rotonde.  She attended schools in Gloversville, Brooklyn NY, and graduated from Drake Business College and American Institute of Banking, both in NYC.

Upon relocating to Schenectady, Lena worked as an accountant for GE before changing careers and spent the rest of her career working for NYS Department of Labor, Unemployment Office, in Schenectady, NY, where she was a well-known and familiar, welcome face, especially to the newly emigrated Italian community in the 1950's through 1970's.

Lena and her mother loved to travel, and traveled all over the world.  They made many trips to Italy and Quebec, Canada, to visit relatives.  Lena was a strong, smart, independent woman who was faithful to her Catholic faith.  She was an inspiration and role model for her nieces.

Predeceasing Lena was her mother, Mary A. Rotonde, and father Joseph Rotonde. Surviving are her sister and brother in law, Bessie and John Bodak of Scotia, nieces Mary Jo Vlainich (Nicholas) of Scotia, Dorothea Palmer (Michael) of Red Hook, nephew Joseph Bodak,  several grand and great nieces and nephews, and many cousins in the Capital District/Saratoga/Gloversville area, Pennsylvania, Quebec, Canada, and Italy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 1PM on Thursday, June 17th at St. Anthony’s Church in Schenectady. Masks are mandated in Church. Burial will follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery.
