Dawn Donovan

Obituary of Dawn June Donovan

Dawn June Donovan, 88, of Burnt Hills passed away Saturday, July 10, 2021 at her home and surrounded by her loving family who stayed with her day and night in the days before her death.

Dawn was born in Allentown, PA to Harry and Frances Maurer.  She finished her schooling there and then worked at the family business, M&S Ladies Tailors,  until marriage brought her to Burnt Hills.

A long-time area resident, Dawn was a homemaker and raised two sons here. One true highlight of her life was the birth of her granddaughter, Morgan Donovan. Dawn’s home is filled with family photos, but photos of Morgan are everywhere in the house.

Dawn was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Burnt Hills. She loved the community there and attending church services was important to Dawn.  She always dressed in Sunday-best outfits that inevitably included one of her notable hats, for which she was famous. While her illnesses and Covid restrictions have prevented her from attending in person in recent years, friends and visitors from Good Shepherd still ask about the hat collection.

Anyone who knew Dawn also knew that she loved food, especially seafood and ice cream. Family members attest that they have seen Dawn combine ice cream with some very unconventional things. Anyone that could manage to bring Dawn a lobster tail—a big one—would be in her good graces for a very long time.

Dawn is survived by her sons, Dain Donovan, 45, of Burnt Hills, NY and Ross Donovan, 44, and his wife,  Nadine Donovan, of Scotia, NY. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Morgan Donovan, 15, and her sister, Kathleen Kelly of Colleyville, TX.

She will be dearly missed by her neighbors and friends from church and the community.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 15, 2021 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 547 Saratoga Road (Route 50) in Burnt Hills. There will be calling hours for family and friends at the church from 10:00-12:00 and the funeral service will follow at 12:00. Burial will follow the service at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Glenville.

Arrangements are being made by the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road in Scotia, NY.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in Dawn’s name to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church for their youth programs. www.glenvillefuneralhome.com
