Obituary of Barbara J. Mayer

Barbara J. Mayer, 89, of Charlton passed away on Monday July 12, 2021. Born in Troy, NY, Barbara was raised in Corinth by her parents Florence and Maynard Seeber. In 1955, Barbara married the love of her life, Thomas D. Mayer and moved to the Charlton area where together they raised two sons and two daughters. Barbara pursued a nursing career and worked for a time at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady before transferring to Maplewood Manor in Ballston Spa. A devout Christian, Barbara was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Glenville, NY, where she attended mass until she could no longer make the journey.    

Anyone who knew Barbara knew that she loved to read and was always surrounded by books.  She also enjoyed travel, having visited Germany, Italy, Ireland, Holland, Hawaii, Alaska, and various Caribbean countries.  Her favorite travels, however, were her trips to the beach on her annual vacations to Camp Ellis, ME.  

Barbara is predeceased by her loving husband, Thomas and her sister Karen Frechette. She is survived by her children Paul (Anne) Mayer of Ballston Spa, NY, David Mayer of San Angelo, TX, Susan Bradley (James) of Chincoteague Island, VA, and Amy Westad (Scott) of Clifton Park, NY.  She is also survived by her 8 grandchildren, Allison, Valerie, Christopher, Jessica, Taylor, Brennen, Brianna and Erik, and her 7 great grandchildren Dominic, Marley, Owen, Neil, Elliott, Lincoln and Leah. She will be dearly missed by all of her family and friends.    

A calling period will be open for relatives and friends on Friday, July 16th from 6 to 7 PM at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Church of Immaculate Conception on Saturday, July 17th at 10 AM. Entombment will follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery.
