Obituary of Elizabeth “Betty” A. Pangburn

Elizabeth “Betty” A. Pangburn, 98, formerly of Florence Avenue, Charlton, passed away July 12, 2021 at Schuyler Ridge Nursing Home. Born in Troy, daughter of the late Charles and Helen Doescher.  She was married to Clarence A. Pangburn on October 2, 1948, and lived in Charlton 54 years.

Betty was a “Rosie the Riveter,” having worked in the General Electric Plant as a crane operator during World War II. Like many children of the Depression era, she was resilient and a hard worker, working at GE until her retirement. With her husband, she strove to make a better life for her children. She always found time to attend her sons’ various sporting events and was happy to support all the neighborhood children. Betty was a faithful parishioner of the Church of Immaculate Conception in Glenville. She was known for her pies and Christmas cookies, her prowess at jigsaw puzzles, and her sense of humor right until the end.

Betty was predeceased by her husband of 64 years; her sister Lillian Piotrowski; brother John Doescher; and grandchildren Nathaniel and Liv Pangburn. She is survived by son Lawrence Pangburn and wife Michele and their children Meghan Sherwood (Ken) and Lawrence (Sarah) Pangburn; Dr. David Pangburn and wife Carrie Leggett and their children Margaret Pangburn, Ben Wilmot, and Henry Wilmot; and Timothy Pangburn and wife Kate White and their children Jennifer Pangburn, Aaron Pangburn (Swati Chaudhary), and Lindsey White (Ryan O’Connor); and grandchildren Wesley and Elliot Pangburn, and Kathryn O’Connor.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at 1:00pm at Historic Vale Cemetery, Schenectady.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Betty’s name may be made to the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 400 Saratoga Road Glenville, NY 12302 or a charity of one’s choice.

The family will be forever grateful to the staff of Schuyler Ridge Nursing Home for the quality and care they provided during her time there.
