Obituary of Hugh F. Boyd

Hugh F. Boyd, 95, of Glenville passed away peacefully on July 21, 2021. Born in Scotia, NY to the late Hugh C. and Myrtle (Ellers) Boyd. A 1943 graduate from Scotia-Glenville High School, Hugh enlisted in the Army Air Force and proudly served during World War II, 1943 to 1946. He will be remembered for his wise tales and war stories, many that will be told to generations to come. 

After the war, he worked as a crop dusting pilot for Marsh Aviation Corporation in Phoenix, he enjoyed flying the planes. When he moved back to the local area, he married the love of his life, the former Yvonne R. Francois. 

He was a longtime employee of General Electric at Knolls Atomic Power Lab, working as an engineering assistant, he retired in 1988. 

Hugh was a curious soul who took up many hobbies throughout his life, including, wood carving, woodworking, boating on Sacandaga Lake and competitive shooting; he was a member of the Woodlawn Gun Club. Hugh was also a long time member of First Reformed Church in Scotia.

Before anything else, however, he was a dedicated family man, married to Yvonne for over 72 years.

To continue his memory is his loving wife, Yvonne Boyd; his children, Brad (Joanne) Boyd and Deborah (Robert) Bull; grandchildren, Jessica Bull, Emily (Jerry) Schrott, Erin Harris, Steve Boyd, Brian Boyd, Jenette (Matthew) Logan, Melissa Boyd; 8 cherished great-grandchildren; brother, Ralph Boyd. 

Hugh is predeceased by his son, Jeffrey Boyd and his sister, Evelyn Fuller. 

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, July 28th from 11:00 to 12:30 at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will follow at 12:30 PM. Service will be LIVE streamed on Glenville Funeral Home's facebook page. Vehicles will drive in procession to the Gerald B.H Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery for a 2:30 PM full military honor service.
