Obituary of Ruth Elinor Bailey

Ruth Elinor Bailey, 93, of Glenville died on Saturday, September 11, 2021. She was the daughter of Van and Helen Aitken. Ruth was a graduate of Nott Terrace High School and Union University School of Nursing. She worked in the operating room at Ellis Hospital.

Ruth loved her camp on Galway Lake, playing Bridge and being a caregiver to family and friends.

She grew up in the Emmanuel Baptist Church, singing in the choir and leading in Christian Education. Ruth was involved with American Baptist Women and volunteered at the Baptist Retirement Center. In later years, she was an active member at First Presbyterian Church.

Ruth is predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Ward E. Bailey Jr.; and is survived by her sons Paul Bailey (Phyllis) of Syracuse and James Bailey (Laurie “Liz”) of Scotia. Her five grandchildren Meghan Miller (Brian), James Joseph Bailey, Joshua Bailey (Laura), Andrew Bailey (Jennifer) and Isaac Bailey (Lindsay). 8 great grandchildren also survive.

Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at 1pm at the First Presbyterian Church, 209 Union St, Schenectady, NY. Ruth was laid to rest at Memory Gardens in Colonie besides her husband Ward.
