Obituary of Rita McCumber

Rita O'Leary Mc Cumber, 87, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2012 at Kingsway Arms Nursing Home with her family by her side. Born in Glens Falls, NY on August 9, 1925 she was one of three children of Leo and Cecilia Prevost O'Leary. Rita was married on October 18, 1947 to Charles Mc Cumber Jr. and lived in Scotia for nearly 54 years. She was employed by Chuck Palmer's State Farm Insurance Agency on Mohawk Avenue as an office manager for over 25 years. Mrs. Mc Cumber was a member of St. Joseph's Church and it's Altar Rosary Society. She was a wonderful homemaker to her family. She worked as a volunteer for the Lincoln Elementary School and was a member of the Glenville Senior Center. She enjoyed reading and traveling and a special fondness for animals. Her husband, Chuck Mc Cumber passed away in 1981. Her family would like to thank the Kingsway Arms staff on the B-Wing, especially Teresa, Carol, Karen, Linda, Marlon, and Crystal. Survivors include her sons, Michael Mc Cumber of Gambrills, MD, Robert (Lesley) Mc Cumber of Andover, MA, James Mc Cumber of Fredericksburg, VA; and her daughter, Chris (Dominick) Macherone of Scotia. Rita leaves behind her sister, Helen Jennings of Scotia; and brother Robert (Barbara) O'Leary of Scotia; her grandchildren Ryan (Stephanie) Macherone, Craig Macherone, Tim Macherone, Kathleen Carr, Lynne Mc Cumber, and Todd Gillingham; and cherished great-grandchildren, Madelyn and Patrick Carr and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, October 19,2012 at 12 noon at St. Joseph's Church, Scotia with Rev. Peter Russo, celebrant. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend the Mass and may also call Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd, Glenville.
