Betty Blackmore

Obituary of Betty Jane Blackmore

Betty Jane Blackmore, 91, passed peacefully to be reunited with her husband on October 1, 2021. Born in Schenectady, NY to her late parents Hugh and Gladys (Robinson) Doull. A 1948 graduate of Scotia-Glenville High School, Betty Jane was a lifelong member of the First Reformed Church of Scotia.

She attended the University of Vermont, receiving her degree in Home Economics. At University she met her husband, Robert A. Blackmore. After their wedding at her family church in Scotia, the couple moved to Alaska during Robert’s military service in the Korean War. They returned to Ballston Lake where they planted roots and raised their 3 children in the Burnt Hills Ballston Lake School District.

Throughout her life, Betty Jane was a talented quilter, she participated in many quilting groups. Her family reflects on how Betty Jane had a unique relationship with every child, whether that was planning a special outing with her grandchildren, supporting every child in their extracurricular activities, or making sure the holidays were extra special with decorations and delicious goodies; she was an outstanding baker. She will always be remembered for her backward lunches, when the kids enjoyed dessert first, especially when that dessert was Ben and Jerry’s ice cream! A grandparent tradition that is now passed on to her children. The family looks back on fond memories to York Beach in Maine.

Predeceased by her husband, Robert. She is survived by her loving children, David (Richel) Blackmore, Kathryn (James) Staudt, Barbara (William) Eby; grandchildren, Alyssa (Peter) Provost, Robyn (Nick) Stone, Elizabeth Badger, Amanda (Joseph) Tadlock, Emily Badger, Gregory Badger, Brett (Julie) Eby, Meghan (Michael) Kaplan, Lindsey (Evan Cronmiller) Eby; great-grandchildren, Madison and Edmund Provost, Zachary and Robert Stone, Ellie and Josephine Tadlock, Peyton Eby, Emilia and Andrew Kaplan; as well as beloved cousin, Roderick Rowledge.
