Obituary of William H. Barner

William H. “Bill” Barner, 92, passed peacefully surrounded by the love of his family on October 14th, 2021. Born in Oneonta, NY to his late parents, Clifford and Luella (Buyce) Barner. Raised in Wells, NY he graduated from Wells High School. He enlisted in the United States Army serving his country.

 

After his honorable military service, Bill utilized the G.I. Bill to further his education at Albany Business College. On July 6, 1953, he married the former, Coralea Frazier, his beloved wife of 62 years. Together they raised their family in Scotia-Glenville. 

 

For 36 years, Bill worked at General Electric as a manager in General Accounting. Retiring in the late 80s, he enjoyed his time with family, as well as being an active member in his community. Bill was a member of the B.P.O.E. Elks of Rotterdam and was a volunteer at the Scotia Fire Department. Throughout his life, he was a parishioner of the Scotia United Methodist Church and an avid sports fan, especially the Yankees and Giants. In Bill’s spare time he enjoyed golfing and spending time at his camp on Schroon Lake in the Adirondacks, he also took great pride in his yard and home in Scotia.

 

Predeceased by his beloved wife, Coralea, and son, Jeffrey D. Barner. His legacy continues with his children, William (Kathleen) Barner II, Brian (Bonnie) Barner; daughter-in-law, Karen Barner; cherished grandchildren, Michael (Paola) Barner, Dan (Amanda Mix) Barner, Lindsey (Joshua) Foote, Carly (James Grecco)  Barner, Christopher (Jaime Nassar) and Katherine (Jeffrey Whittaker) Barner; great-grandchildren, Abby and Ben Barner, Levi Barner and Remington Foote; as well as several nieces and nephews. 

 

Calling hours will be held at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. on Wednesday, October 20th from 10AM to 12PM. Funeral Services officiated by Rev. John Califano begin at 12 PM. Followed by a funeral procession to Park Cemetery in Scotia for military honors and committal service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Protective Foundation, 53 Maple Ave, Schenectady, NY 12302 or Community Hospice, 310 S. Manning Blvd., Albany, NY 12208.
