Laurie Hallak

Obituary of Laurie Hallak

Laurie H. (Bilka), 58, a Schenectady resident, died August 26, 2013, at Ellis Hospital after a long illness. She was born to Richard J. Bilka and Sheila R. (Waters) Bilka in Niskayuna, New York on May 22, 1955. Laurie has been a successful part of the James Trauring Law Firm representing disability and social security clients. She was a valuable asset to the clients she represented, as well as to the employees she managed on a daily basis. Laurie loved the ocean. Over the years, she vacationed in Old Orchard Beach, Maine. Along with her passion for the sunrises, she and her long-time companion, Ben, enjoyed the carefree lifestyle the ocean afforded. Laurie was also fond of her friendships at Riverside Condominiums. She enjoyed playing Mahjongg with her friends there each week. She will be sorely missed by all neighbors at the condominium. She was predeceased by her father, Richard J. Bilka in 2006. Survivors include her mother, Sheila R. (Waters) Bilka, of Glenville; her sister, Sherrie B. (James) Paslowski, of Ballston Spa; her brother, Michael W. (Mary) Bilka; and long-time companion Ben Barta of Scotia; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Natalya Rukavishnikova and the nursing staff at Ellis Hospital A-6 Wing. Their compassion and kindness was unsurpassed. Additional thanks goes to Laurie's Hospice caregivers, Kelly Marsh, Teresa Fretto, as well as the rest of the Hospice staff who were very supportive. At Laurie's request, no services will be held. Glenville Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements. Glenridge Road Glenville, New York (399-1630). Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.glenvillefuneral home.com
