Obituary of Bernhard E. Claus
Bernhard E. Claus, 58, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2021 at the Mountain Valley Hospice house with his wife at his side. Born in Hamburg, Germany he was the son of Grietje (Hesse) Claus and the late Albrecht Claus. Bernhard was educated in Germany and received his PhD from the University of Rennes in France. He married his beloved wife Christine “Tina” (Eckert) Claus on April 10, 1992 in Kaiserslautern, Germany. In 1993, Bernhard moved to Boston, MA for two years to finish his post doctorate at M.I.T. In 1998, he and his family moved to the Capital District where he worked as an Electrical Engineer for General Electric Research Center in Niskayuna. Bernhard's expertise led to his involvement in more than 50 patents during his tenure at GE. His colleagues have described him as a brilliant scientist. Bernhard also enjoyed water sports, playing the piano, cooking, gardening and dancing. Above all he was a devoted father, a kind and cheerful man who cherished the time he was able to spend with his family.
In addition to his mother Grietje and wife Christine "Tina"; Bernhard is survived by his children Percy and Finn Claus. He is also survived by his brother Reiner Claus (Judith) and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father Albrecht Claus.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. on Saturday, October 30th from 1 to 4 PM.
