Obituary of Virginia A. Bergman

Virginia A. Bergman, 79, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2021 at Ellis Hospital.

Born on December 20, 1941 in Syracuse, NY she was the daughter of the late George E. Laws Sr. and Marion (Hilleges) Laws. A 1959 graduate of East Syracuse High School, she moved to the Capital District with her family in 1970 where she received an Associates Degree from Schenectady County Community College. 

Virginia worked at the General Electric plant when her children were young. She was a hard worker, who provided for her family and made sure all four of her children were never without. In 2004, Virginia retired from G.E. as an Inspector and as a member of the Quarter Century Club.

Virginia enjoyed crocheting and knitting. She created countless afghan blankets for loved ones. She was a lover of all animals, especially cats. In her spare time she volunteered at the Animal Protective Foundation as well as Baptist Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was a parishioner of the Immaculate Conception Church. Before all else, family was most important to Virginia. Her children will always remember the love she provided them, and Sundays will forever be remembered as their family day. 

She was predeceased by her brother George Laws Jr. in 2012 and former husband Thomas Bergman Sr. in 2005.  Survivors include her sons, Robert Bergman (Michelle) of Glenville and Thomas Bergman Jr. (Linda) of Buffalo; daughters, Maryann Foland (Eric) of Schoharie and Tari Vassallo (Vin) of Boston; and grandchildren, Pauline Bergman of Lake Grove and Sarah Bergman of Buffalo. 

Relatives and friends are welcomed to the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. on Wednesday, October 27th for calling hours 4 to 7 PM. Funeral Service will follow at 7 PM. Burial will be private at the family’s convenience.
