Obituary of Nicole Marie Szala

Nicole Marie Szala, 45, passed away on October 22, 2021 at her home. Born in Niskayuna, she was the daughter of Deborah (Trainosky) Szala and the late Lawrence Szala. Nicole was a 1994 graduate of Burnt Hills Ballston Lake High School and went on to obtain a master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from Russell Sage College in Troy. Throughout the years Nicole held several jobs in the occupational therapy field, substitute teaching and most recently at Regular’s Liquor Cabinet in Glenville. She was an avid swimmer and was a swimming and diving coach at Gloversville High School. Nicole also enjoyed walking, music, watching Lifetime and Hallmark movies and rooting for the Chicago Bears. Nicole was a communicant of the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Glenville and was the God Daughter of Timothy Szala and Helen Sheehan. Above all, she enjoyed the time she was able to spend with her family and friends and will be remembered for her gentle spirit and giving nature.

Left to cherish Nicole’s memory is her mother Deborah Szala, brother Christopher Szala, uncle’s Timothy Szala and Michael Downey, her fur babies Delilah and Pooh Bear along with several cousins and extended family members.

In addition to her father Lawrence Szala, Nicole was predeceased by her maternal grandparents Raymond and Jean Trainosky, paternal grandparents Delores and Matthew “Mac” Szala and her aunt’s Joan Downey and Paula Szala.

Calling hours will be held on Monday November 1, 2021 from 5-8pm at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road Glenville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday November 2, 2021 at 1pm at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 400 Saratoga Road, Glenville. The Mass will be live streamed via the church’s Facebook page. Burial will follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Amsterdam.
