Obituary of Kristin E. Sawyer

Kristin E. Sawyer, 49, passed away after a brief illness on November 14, 2021, at Samaritan Hospital in Troy surrounded by her loving family.  Born in Troy, she was the daughter of Judy (McLoughlin) Wheeler and the late Frank Thomas. Kristin was a graduate of Cohoes High School and married her high school sweetheart Gordon Sawyer on October 14, 1992. She worked for many years as a bus driver for Birnie Bus Service. Kristin was an avid sports fan, cheering for the Dallas Cowboys and Boston Bruins. Holidays were always a festive time for her family as she would ensure it was special for each and every one of them. She also loved the ocean. Above all, Kristin loved her family, especially her children and grandchildren. Her caring and giving nature will be missed by all.

In addition to her mother, Judy (McLoughlin) Wheeler, Kristin is survived by her beloved husband Gordon Sawyer, her children Rachael Cottrell (the late Benjamin), Tiffany Lisboa (Xavier Salasar), Cymantha Sawyer, Joshua Sawyer, Kyleigh Sawyer and Madyson Sawyer and step-son Mark Ashley. Additionally, her cherished grandchildren Emma Murray, Seth Murray, Sophia Cottrell, Reilly Cottrell, Xavier Salasar, Gabriel Salasar and Charlotte Sawyer also survive. Kristin’s siblings Kiera Hovey (Curtis), Kayla Oechsner (Edward), Kimberly Thomas, Eric Thomas and Jennifer Mahoney (Russell) are left to cherish her memory. Many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive.

In addition to her father Frank Thomas, she was predeceased by her sister Courtney Savaria as well as her son-in-law Benjamin Cottrell.

A private celebration of life was held at Anthony’s Italian Restaurant in Cohoes.
