John Boscherini

Obituary of John G. Boscherini

John G. Boscherini, 78, passed peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on November 30, 2021. Originally from Catskill, NY, he was predeceased by his parents, John B. and Elynore (Knoll) Boscherini.

A Scotia-Glenville High School graduate, John continued his education at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) to earn a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree. He was also a fraternity member of Zeta Psi. Upon graduation, John joined the United States Air Force serving in the NYS Air National Guard, where he served for 20 years. He married his beloved wife, Helen (Sawicki), and together they relocated to Sacramento, California for navigator training at Mathers Air Base.

John and Helen, married for 54 years, always worked as a team to navigate their life together. They returned to Glenville to plant their roots and raise three daughters. John flew C-97 Stratofreighter cargo aircrafts in the 139th Military Airlift Squadron of NYS Air National Guard based in Schenectady. He flew several important military missions overseas, including Vietnam.

John, a licensed professional engineer, worked for the New York State Department of Transportation as a Civil Engineer for more than 35 years. He was a parishioner of the Church of the Immaculate Conception and a volunteer, with Helen, at Proctor’s Theater in Schenectady. In his spare time, John enjoyed golfing, especially with his golf league, Tech Services, at Van Patten Golf Course. He also took great pride in his home, always doing something around the house, but especially in his vegetable garden and yard. John was not one for sitting still, however, he’d find time if the New York Yankees or RPI hockey team were playing.

Above all else, John was a family man. His girls were his purpose, attending every function or event they were involved in while being a quiet, reassuring presence in their lives. John was the ultimate provider and supported the women in his life by being their protector and motivator.

His family fondly remembers their summer camping vacations to Fish Creek Campgrounds in Saranac, NY. Later in life, the family began taking vacation to the Caribbean Islands, before finding their home away from home on the island of Saint Maarten.

One of the proudest moments of John’s life was when he was promoted to “Poppa”; he loved his grandchildren with every ounce of his soul, and his family will carry on John’s legacy forever. To continue John’s memory is his wife, Helen Boscherini; loving daughters, Krista Boscherini, Tara (Michael) Mitchell, and Andrea (Peter) Rogai; cherished grandchildren, Aidan John Mitchell and Vivienne Elizabeth Mitchell; siblings, Elaine (Ron) Doyle, Karen (George) Roksandic and Philip (Sonia) Boscherini; brother in-law Edward (Maria) Sawicki; and several nephews and a niece.
